ALTAR’S TREK ADVENTURE

DESCRIPTION

This three-day adventure takes as to the crater or Yellow lagoon of Altar volcano the most beautiful mountain in Ecuador. Altar is part of the Sangay National Park that begins on the Andean region and extends to the rain forest of our country. Keep reading and find out how to ALTAR’S TREK ADVENTURE

Capac Urcu the indigenous name of the volcano means majestic mountain on Quichua the Incas language and is 5320 m.a.s.l is surrounded by beautiful different color lagoons and impressive glaciers.

It is believed that Altar was higher than mighty Chimborazo before it collapsed during one of the volcanic eruptions.

We hike thru beautiful trails following the Blanco river and we lodge on the climbers shelter on the Collanes valley. Good food, comfortable lodging facilities and amazing views of the surrounding volcanos are waiting for you.

ITINERARY

We begin the day with two hour’s drive from the hotel in Riobamba to Candelaria a typical village on the eastern range of the Andes. We start the six-hour hike that take as to the Collanes valley located at the bottom of the volcano. We eat a picnic lunch on the mountain. Dinner and lodge at the climber’s shelter.
After a lofty breakfast we start hiking towards the volcano s crater or Yellow Lagoon located at 4200 m.a.s.l. we cross a very lush native Andean forest, the hike takes two hours and after enjoying the amazing views of the inside of the crater and impressive Yellow Lagoon we begin hiking back to the shelter. Lunch in the shelter and free afternoon to enjoy the surroundings. Dinner and lodge at the shelter. Dinner and lodge at Cultura Manor hotel.
After breakfast we start hiking the five hours back to Candelaria. Lunch in a restaurant on the village. Drive back to Riobamba.
