You navigate for approximately 2 hours, during which time the guides give orientation and safety talks. Entering Bartolomé the waters become clearer turquoise, revealing the sandy bottom with scattered rocks. The boat goes to its anchorage place, and then, in the company of the guide, go down to Bartolomé Island.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF BARTOLOME

  • Bartolomé is a volcanic islet off the east coast of Santiago Island.
  • The island offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the archipelago.
  • It has a volcanic cone that is easy to climb and offers excellent views of the other islands.
  • The Pinnacle Rock is the distinctive feature of this island, and the most representative monument of the Galapagos.
  • The 360 degree view from the highest part of Bartolomé Island is truly spectacular. The highest part that is visited on this island is approximately 115 meters above sea level, the tour is done along a 795-meter path of steps (360+ steps) and that has one of the most spectacular views and landscapes. spectacular views of the Galapagos Islands, where you have a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding islands and on a clear day even of others further away such as Marchena and La Pinta.
  • From the highest part and towards the east, you can see splash-type cones, formed by thick lava drops. These cones are known as Parasite Cones since they were not formed by action of the main event.
  • To the west we find tuff cones (formed from sedimented volcanic ash) and eroded remains. The most representative Pinnacle of the Galapagos Islands and especially of this Island is a tuff cone. The main attraction of La Isla Bartolomé is the geological interpretation of the formation of the Galapagos Islands that can occur on this site.
  • In the visiting area there are two beaches and they are linked by a path. On the south beach you can take walks with the possibility of observing rays and blue sharks (endemic Galapagos shark) from the shore, so activities such as swimming or snorkelling are prohibited on this beach.
  • In contrast to the south beach, on the north beach you can do surface diving (snorkelling), during most of the year the sea is very calm which helps to carry out activities such as swimming.
