Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas is one of the 24 states of the Republic of Ecuador, located in the central northern part of Ecuador. in the geographical area known as the Coastal Region, on the outer flanks of the western mountain range of the Andes.

In case you didn’t know, its administrative capital is the city of Santo Domingo, which is also its largest and most populated city. It is bordered to the north and east by Pichincha, to the southeast by Cotopaxi, to the south by Los Ríos, to the west by Manabí, and to the northwest by Esmeraldas. 458,580 people live in the territory of Santo Domingo, according to INEC’s demographic projection for 2020, making it the eleventh most populated province in the country.

The province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas is made up of 2 cantons, from which there are 8 urban parishes and 10 rural parishes. According to the latest land use planning, the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas belongs to a region which also includes the province of Manabí, although it is not officially formed, called the Pacific Region.

After the war of independence and the annexation of Ecuador to Gran Colombia, the Province of Pichincha was created on June 25, 1824, in which within its limits was the current territory of Santo Domingo.
